Reviews for
WITCHFIRE

Author:
Cyrese Covelli

WITCHFIRE centers around a two sisters whose lives turn chaotic after the oldest, Gemma, shapeshifts into a panther one night. While still trying to come to terms with her shapeshifting ability (as well as figure out why she has it,) the two go to Chicago to celebrate the younger sister, Ascher’s birthday. The sisters are strangely revered at the gothic club, where people dress as vampires, and they catch the attention of Elliot Ambrose who just happens to work for the Master Vampire of Chicago who decides Gemma would make a good addition to his coven of supernaturally gifted creatures. Ascher escapes with the help of two sympathetic members of Savian’s brood and is taken to a safe-house where she meets a family of witches. Ascher soon discovers that she can conjure fire and sets out, with a werewolf named Fawne, and the Prince of Warlocks, to rescue her sister.

Full of laugh-out-loud dialogue reminiscent of MaryJanice Davidson, WITCHFIRE is a welcome addition to the paranormal universe. The characters have something for everyone, with the overbearing, popular older sister, and the shy, scary movie-obsessed Ascher who struggles to gain perspective after she is suddenly thrust into the nightmare world of her dreams. Author Cyrese Covelli easily balances real-life teenage angst with the unbelievable beings and occurences that pepper the plot. WITCHFIRE is peopled with werewolves, vampires, witches and warlocks, which is common to paranormal fiction, but Covelli manages to make you see the beings in a new and exiting way. I loved the character of Daray Valerian, the Prince of Warlocks. I guess I’ve always een a sucker for bad guys, but I was practically drooling on the page. Sigh, if only fictional boys could really exist:)

WITCHFIRE by Cyrese Covelli gets a rating of four out of five stars.
