A Frenchman’s Promise is another trademark western historical by Hank Valon. I found myself chuckling at the antics of Amanda, the lovable yet resilient heroine, and her love for Antoine, her savior and one true love. At first I wasn’t sure about these two, mainly because Amanda comes across as a spoiled princess and treats Antoine very rudely. Perhaps it was because she was kidnapped and held for ransom that made her lash out, but quickly I warmed up to her because, even though she was trapped in the wilderness with a total stranger, she complained very minimally and looked forward to be reunited with her loving family.

Fans of simple yet sweet storytelling should read this wonderfully written story. The villains get there just desserts in the end and the descriptions of the wilderness and the people who inhabited this era seem so real.

This is truly lovely and endearing romance that will bring a smile to your face.
