[Misaligned: The Darkest
is very suspenseful and drives itself forward from the very beginning.
I really like the characters – especially the recurring ones. Simon is
always my favorite. The author does a great job keeping each true to
the traits/personality established in the earlier novels. Just like the
earlier books in the series, this book doesn't talk down to its YA
audience. The vocabulary and complexity of the plot makes the book feel
smart without being falsely intellectual. The story seamlessly weaves
Chinese philosophy and nuclear fusion information with Celtic mythology
and Arthurian legend. It all ties together and is informative without
feeling didactic. Conceptually, it sounds like it would seem forced –
but it doesn't – it really works.
