Political
fiction
Political fiction is a subgenre of fiction which deals in
some way with political affairs. Often, political fiction
uses narrative, fictional prose to provide commentary on political
events, systems, and theories. Works of political fiction
often "directly criticize an existing society or... present
an alternative, sometimes fantastic, reality. (1)" Prominent
pieces of political fiction include the anti-communist dystopias
of the early 20th century, though earlier pieces of political
fiction such as Uncle Tom's Cabin and Gulliver's Travels are
of equal if not greater prominence and import.
