From
The Trip to Blackbeard Island...
The trail beckoned us
into the woods further down the
island. There was a sudden cool breath
as we walked into the shade of the big
oaks again. The trees arched their
thick, fern-draped arms over us.
We didn’t walk along
the trail for long before light poured
from another clearing.
“I hear waves!”
called Libbie.
“This part of the
trail leads us out to the beach,”
reminded Mrs. Paula.
“Let’s run for
it!” yelled Josh.
All the kids rushed
toward the opening, but soon found it
slow going as the trail’s packed
surface changed to loose beach sand.
The sunlight sparkled off the sand and
the ocean. It was a good thing we had
our hats!
