From The Race for Terre Bluff...
“I’m ready to prove I am a better choice than Janice. I’ll prove that I’m the best man for the job. I’ll show you that I know how to talk like a mayor.” His voice grew stronger with each affirmation.
Ralph snorted. “You’ll never prove any such thing to me. Let’s get that much straight. I’m the best man for the job, but I don’t want it at this point in my life. Janice is more qualified, but she’s a woman. And a Democrat. However, all of that is irrelevant.”
Emil asked his father to spell that word so he could write it on his tablet.
“You don’t need to prove a thing to me,” Ralph continued. “It’s the voters you need to convince and I’m here to show you how.”
“Thank you, sir. I’m here—to learn how,” Emil said.
“I’ll work on your policies and proposals. In the meantime, you say as little as possible to anyone. We don’t need any bigmouths tapping into your drug history, or your daughters’ police records. If anyone questions you,” he nodded at the legal pad and Emil documented the last word he remembered— proposals. “You say, ‘I’ll check the details and get back to you’, or ‘the sources aren’t available to me at this time’, or ‘we’re still ironing out the details on that’.”
