From LifeSongs...
I Have Learned to Like You
Let's laugh again like times gone by
Make me smile or make me cry
Do all the crazy things we used to do
'Cause I have learned to like you.
Speak in silly words or rhyme
"You show me yours, I'll show you mine;"
You told me I should act my age
But I'll keep it up 'til I'm old and gray.
Why do all the things I touch die?
Plants I've had or friends gone by
Still, in my mind, they'll all be alive
We should enjoy life, not just survive.
Yet, through the many years to come,
You'll look on these things that we've done,
I've learned to like you in these ways,
Remember me in later days.
Trade schoolbooks and ponytails
For silky skirts and painted nails
If you find the time, please look for me,
I'll be playing in a tree.
Some don't grow up, we just get old
But we still view life as harsh and cold
Isn't it nice from time to time
To give up what's real for nursery rhymes.
Why can't we just stay the same?
If life is rough, make it a game
I may be silly, but that's my style
Please just slow down and play awhile.
I can't keep watching over you
Keep you from the things that you must do
When you feel like crying, when you're sad,
Think of the good time that we've had.
