From The $1100 Treasure...
“Had enough?”
“Yes, sir,” she said quietly. “May I ask what your intentions are for me tonight?”
“You’re still worried I might take unfair advantage of our master-slave relationship?”
“Yes, I am. I am your slave, but you have treated me as you would a respectable White woman. We are alone in a small room. It is time to go to bed. I have one child without a father. I don’t need another.”
“I have no problem with that,” he said getting to his feet. “I don’t intend leaving my children scattered around over the country with different mothers. I think we should be married before we go to making some children.”
“Married? You intend to marry me?”
“If you’ll have me.” He took the screen, “but I know this is rather premature for you.” He unfolded the screen and set it so it shielded her cot from his bed. “I know you are smart and level headed and not apt to jump into marriage so sudden, but I can wait until your feelings about me grow into love.”
