Gazemba was born in 1974 in Vihiga in
Western Kenya and lives with his
family in Kangemi, Nairobi. Trained as
a journalist at Kenya Polytechnic
University College, he has written for
the Sunday Nation, The East African
and Msanii Magazines. His
fiction has appeared in The Literary
Review (Fairleigh Dickinson
University, 2009), Crossing Borders
online magazine, ‘A’ is for
Ancestors-a selection of stories from
the Caine Prize (Jacana, 2004) and Man
of the House and other new short
stories from Kenya (CCC Press, UK
2011).
He has
published one novel, The Stone
Hills of Maragoli (Jomo Kenyatta
Prize) and 7 children’s books,
including Grandmother’s Winning
Smile, long-listed for ’07
Macmillan Prize.
In
2003, Stanely attended the Caine Prize
Writers’ workshop in Cape Town,
South Africa, and was International
Fellow at the 2007 Breadloaf
Writers’ Conference in Vermont, USA. |
